Plan Your Wedding Day Timeline: Free Sample Itineraries
Planning your wedding day timeline? My free sample itineraries for church and hotel weddings will help you organise your timings, leave room for photographs and enjoy your celebrations. As a Professional Wedding Photographer, I work with couples beforehand to agree a schedule that suits their day - with breathing space for the unexpected.
Your wedding day should feel like a celebration, with time to enjoy your guests, soak up the atmosphere and spend a few moments together as a newly married couple. A well-planned itinerary helps make space for all of that. To help you get started, I’ve added sample itineraries for church and hotel weddings, available to download through the link in my Instagram bio.
These are starting points to help you picture how your day could flow, from morning preparations through to your first dance.

Why agree your wedding schedule beforehand?
As your photographer, knowing the plan helps me prepare for the moments that matter to you. It also helps us set aside enough time for family photographs and couple portraits, while giving you plenty of time to enjoy the celebrations.
Agreeing your schedule in advance with your venue and suppliers helps everyone understand where they need to be and when. It’s much easier to resolve a timing clash before the wedding than while your guests are waiting!
As the saying goes, “Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.” that might sound a little dramatic for a wedding, but the principle is useful: a little preparation now can save unnecessary stress on the day.
So what should your itinerary include?
Beyond the ceremony time, think about the moments that shape the rest of your day:
- Morning preparations: Allow time for hair, makeup, getting dressed and a few photographs before leaving.
- Travel: For a church wedding, include journeys between locations and time for guests to arrive.
- Confetti and congratulations: Give yourselves a chance to enjoy those first moments after the ceremony.
- Group photographs: Agree a manageable list beforehand, so we can gather the right people efficiently.
- Couple portraits: Set aside a little time together, with the possibility of stepping out again if the evening light is lovely.
- The wedding breakfast, speeches and evening celebrations: Coordinate these timings with your venue so everything fits comfortably.
Your itinerary should reflect your wedding and your priorities. Every couple’s day will look a little different.
Leave room for the unexpected
Even with careful planning, things can change. The weather might turn, a journey might take longer than expected, or a speech might run over.
That’s why a good schedule needs some breathing space. It should guide your day without making you feel tied to the clock.
If something unexpected happens, we can adapt. Having an agreed plan gives us a useful starting point when we need to move things around.
