London Wedding Photography
Documentary emotion with editorial direction, from the ballrooms of Mayfair to the garden squares of Chelsea.
London gave me my eye. Thirty years ago my career began on its runways and in its studios, in the seasons of London Fashion Week and the pages of editorial commissions, and the city has never stopped teaching me how to see. Now I return to it for something quieter and more lasting: weddings. I am Martin Japheth. I photograph every wedding as a bespoke story. Around eighty percent of my work is quiet documentary, real moments left undirected. The remaining twenty percent is editorial direction, a few considered minutes that give you portraits with the polish of a fashion page. It is a way of working that belongs naturally in London, where a wedding can move from a Mayfair ballroom to a plane tree square in the space of an afternoon. I travel from North Wales for a limited number of London weddings each year, and I am currently booking 2027 and 2028.
How I work
Here’s what’s waiting for you
Your day is documented as it happens. I arrive early, stay late, and keep out of the way of the moments that matter. Where the light and the setting invite it, I will steal you away for twenty minutes of signature portraits, directed gently and worn lightly. In London that might mean a quiet mews behind your hotel, the edge of a royal park at golden hour, or the staircase your venue is famous for.
Before any London wedding I carry out a full recce of your venue and its surrounding streets, walking the route at the time of day we will be shooting, so that decisions on the day are already made and your time is spent celebrating rather than waiting.

These are the settings I would most gladly carry a camera to, in the two quarters of London I know best.
The grand hotels of Mayfair
– Claridge's, Brook Street. An Art Deco ballroom of genuine pedigree, and a hotel that understands occasion better than almost anywhere.
– The Dorchester, Park Lane. Grandeur beside Hyde Park, with a ballroom that opens onto Park Lane itself.
– The Connaught, Mayfair. Refined and quietly contemporary, minutes from Farm Street Church, with Mount Street Gardens opposite for portraits among the plane trees.
– The Ritz, Piccadilly. Louis XVI interiors and Green Park directly across the road, made for unhurried couple portraits between ceremony and celebration.
The historic houses and clubs
– Dartmouth House, Mayfair. A Georgian mansion of interconnecting salons, a marble staircase and a sheltered courtyard that photographs like a French garden.
– The Lansdowne Club, Mayfair. An eighteenth century treasure with a listed ballroom, for couples who want their celebration held in one storied building.
– No.4 Hamilton Place, on the edge of Hyde Park Corner. An Edwardian house of considerable character, home to the Royal Aeronautical Society.
The palaces and museums of Kensington
– Kensington Palace. State Apartments steeped in royal history, and Queen Anne's Orangery within the palace grounds, for a wedding held where monarchs have lived.
– The Natural History Museum. Hintze Hall beneath the whale is one of the most dramatic wedding settings in Britain, and the museum's Victorian terracotta warms every frame.
– The Victoria and Albert Museum. Art and craft on every side, for couples whose day deserves a gallery.
Chelsea
– Chelsea Old Town Hall, King's Road. The register office where generations of famous couples have married, with marble corridors and a granite columned entrance that ask for black and white.
– Chelsea Physic Garden. A walled botanic garden founded in 1673, hidden beside the Thames, holding its light long into the evening.
– Leighton House. An artist's home of extraordinary interiors, where ceremonies are held in the studio itself.
– The Cadogan and 11 Cadogan Gardens, Sloane Street and Chelsea. Townhouse elegance, private garden squares, and Pavilion Road a few steps away for editorial street frames.
For your couple portraits and pre wedding session
– Kensington Gardens, Green Park and the royal parks that sit beside these venues, at first light or golden hour.
– Mount Street Gardens, Pavilion Road and the garden squares of Chelsea, quiet, architectural and unmistakably London.

Do you travel to the LONDON?
Yes, and gladly. I am based in North Wales, but London is where my career in photography began, and I return often for editorial work. I photograph a limited number of London weddings each year, which keeps every commission personal.
Do you know London well?
Thirty years of fashion and editorial commissions have been made there, from the runway seasons of London Fashion Week onwards, and I photographed an editorial shoot in the city as recently as July 2026. I know its light, its streets and its pace.
How far ahead should we book?
I am currently booking 2027 and 2028. Sought after London Saturdays are reserved well over a year out, so earlier is kinder to your plans.
When will we see our photographs?
